Location
Sovereign Hills is situated within the Hastings Local Government Area on the New South Wales Mid-North Coast and forms part of ‘Australia’s Holiday Coast’. Hastings is defined in the east by more than 80 kilometres of Pacific Ocean coastline and by the Great Dividing Range to the west.
Sovereign Hills is located 9 kilometres (10 minutes drive) west of the regional centre of Port Macquarie. Nestled on the coast at the mouth of the Hastings River, Port Macquarie is almost halfway between Sydney (430 kilometres to the south) and Brisbane (510 kilometres to the north).

The region’s topography is diverse ranging from sand dunes, coastal wetlands and flood plains to rugged mountain ranges. Much of Hastings is characterised by State Forest and Werrikimbe National Park.
Transport
Port Macquarie is in an excellent position to access local, state, national and international markets. The area has easy access to the Pacific Highway, fast coach access, rail services at Wauchope and regular air services to and from Sydney.
Population
Port Macquarie is the long-established regional centre for the Hastings Region providing broadly based public and private business sectors as well as a dynamic retail and commercial district and enjoying many years as a thriving tourism centre.
The total population of the Hastings local government area exceeds 60,000 with over half living in the Port Macquarie precinct. The largest population group is 25-44, followed by the 45-64 and then the 10-24 group.
Hastings is one of the fastest growing regions in Australia (estimated at 2.7% per annum). Sovereign Hills plays a significant role in the Hastings Urban Growth Strategy and provides a planned response to meet projected increases in population.
Tourism
Tourism is an increasingly important part of the Port Macquarie economy. Visitors are estimated to spend over A$500M on the Holiday Coast every year.
The Greater Port Macquarie Region boasts 13 pristine beaches, two major river systems and is well known as a playground for water sports enthusiasts. The region also features rainforest areas and bushland walks, as well as nature parks and wildlife reserves.
Along with the ideal maritime climate, beaches, environmental attractions and entertainment facilities, the Holiday Coast is starting to develop niche markets in areas such as arts and crafts, ecotourism and adventure-style holidays, with training and education themes for city-based professionals. The region is also proving increasingly popular with business travellers.
