New Town is Rising Subdivision of the Sovereign Hills display village, at Thrumster west of Port Macquarie, is expected to be completed in mid December, making way for the builders. The display village will comprise of 36 lots and building is to commence in early February 2011. Sovereign Hills Sales and Marketing Manager, Tony Berry said - although it appeared activity in the area had picked up - work had been ongoing. "Sure, we have had some delays, which have come from troubles with approvals, both locally and at a state level," Mr Berry said. "And then there have been the recent rain delays. But for people who have said nothing has been happening at the site, it couldn't be further from the truth". "A huge amount of work has been going on." Contractor Steve Cusato, from the Wauchope-based Cazac Civil, is in charge of that work. "The amount of work that has gone into this so far is just mind blowing," Mr Cusato said. "People have said that not much seems to be going on here, but all the work we have done has been underground, so it is hard to tell from the road just what is going on. "So far, we have done the earthworks, installed 2 kms of sewer pipes, two-plus kilometres of stormwater drainage, all the roads have been cut in, and the curb and guttering will start this week. "We have put in a maze of stuff underground." Mr Berry said Sovereign Hills would accommodate the equivalent of 25 per cent of Port Macquarie's existing population when completed. "Essentially, it will be like a fully self-contained new township, even with its own town green," Mr Berry said. "The thing people need to remember is, that projects like this are not just done in five minutes." Included in the development are more than 2500 house lots, two schools, a shopping centre and large commecial areas. "Plus we are putting fibre optics in everywhere," Mr Berry added. Construction of the display village is expected to be finished in the third quarter of 2011. (Article courtesy of Port Macquarie News, Wednesday 20 October 2010) |
