“You can DIY, especially if you’re using a neutral colour, you can’t really go wrong with white.”

A bathroom reno can easily run into the thousands of dollars, but for a faster more cost-effective result, a facelift is a great way to breathe new life into one of the home’s most important spaces.

“If people are willing to renovate without overcapitalising they can go over the top of their tiles with the tile paint, replace old shower curtains, even install a new vanity; Bunnings has some great fittings and fixtures. You just need to choose the right replacement items to stick to your budget.

Kitchen

You definitely don’t have to demolish your kitchen to achieve a new look, especially if the existing framework is still in good nick.

“You can paint cupboards, change door handles, install a new splashback, update your bar stools and, if the budget allows, pop in some pendants for a modern finish.”

Furniture

Thinking of replacing that dark brown antique dining table? Hold that thought, add some new chairs and put your new-found painting skills to good use.

“Instead of throwing away old furniture, revamp it. Sand it down, repaint just the legs or the top – freshen things up with new colours, cushions and a throw.”

Styling your Space

This is the fun part – making your house feel like a home, just remember, excessive clutter will make the room feel smaller.

“You don’t need to jam your bookshelves full of books to make it look like a bookshelf, you can just cluster groups of three, such as trinkets, to create a minimal look and freshen up a space – more is less.”
