Supporting Local Students As They Build Trade Careers

Local students have been recognised through this year’s Sovereign Hills Display Village Trade Student Development Scholarship, supporting them as they take the next step toward trade careers.

Newman Senior Technical College students Sophie Holmes, studying Certificate II Construction Pathways, and Lachlan Kidd, studying Certificate II Engineering Pathways, have each been awarded a $1,000 Total Tools voucher, recognising their commitment, work ethic and enthusiasm for their chosen trades.

Now in its fourth year, the scholarship is designed to encourage and support the next generation of skilled tradespeople by helping to offset the cost of essential tools and safety equipment as students transition from training into the workforce.

Lachlan, who hopes to work in steelmanufacturing, fencing, roofing or welding, said the scholarship would helpfund essential welding equipment and protective gear.

“I am really grateful for the voucherat Total Tools. I’ve already started my wish list of things to purchase atTotal Tools with my voucher,” Lachlan said.

Leader of VET Trade, Janeden River, said the volume and quality of applications highlighted the strong interest invocational pathways among students.

“When a young tradie shows a passionfor their work, there is nothing better than being able to connect them withpeople who will support their journey,”

“We are grateful to the Sovereign Hills group of builders who are doing just that. Their support of the students at Newman is exactly what the industry needs to inspire young people to continue learning the skills that will build our future.” concluded Janeden.

With the Display Village opening at the end of last year, the important role skilled trades play in delivering homes and supporting local growth has been evident. Supporting young people as they enter the workforce is a natural extension of this, with the Sovereign Hills Display Village proud to continue backing students at the beginning of their trade careers.
